Wyndham City Council Highlights Urgent Needs as City Growth Surges

Wyndham City Council has launched A Way Forward for Wyndham, a community-led advocacy campaign urging all candidates in the 2026 Victorian State Election to commit to 16 major infrastructure and investment priorities across roads, rail, recreation and health.

The campaign highlights growing pressure on transport networks, health services and community facilities in one of Australia’s fastest-growing municipalities. Backed by Council’s evidence-based Advocacy Prioritisation Framework, the initiative focuses on projects considered critical to supporting Wyndham’s rapidly expanding population.

Wyndham City Deputy Mayor Jasmine Hill said the city’s future growth depends on urgent State Government investment.

“Wyndham is home to 337,000 people and growing to 500,000 by 2040,” Cr Hill said.

“Our roads are congested, our trains are overcrowded, our families wait too long for health care and community facilities. There is a way forward for Wyndham, but it requires the State Government to invest in our future.”

The campaign outlines four key investment packages, including major road upgrades such as the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road and Wyndham Ring Road, along with new train stations at Truganina, Black Forest Road and Sayers Road.

Additional priorities include the redevelopment of Werribee Station, electrification of the Regional Rail Link, new recreation facilities including the Riverdale Aquatic Centre and Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility, as well as long-term funding support for Mercy Hospital and a new mental health service in Wyndham North.

Council said the campaign will feature community events throughout the year and provide residents with opportunities to share their experiences and priorities through The Loop platform.

“This isn’t a wish list,” Cr Hill said.

“Every one of these 16 priorities has been selected because it is evidence-based, Council and community-endorsed, and a State Government responsibility.”

The 2026 Victorian State Election will be held on Saturday, 28 November 2026.
