Wyndham City Unveils $Billion-Scale Vision to Support Rapid Population Growth

Wyndham City Council has officially launched a major advocacy campaign titled “A Way Forward for Wyndham”, calling on all candidates contesting the 2026 Victorian State Election to commit to a set of 16 priority infrastructure and investment projects designed to address rapid population growth and mounting service pressures across the municipality.

Framed as a community-led initiative, the campaign brings together evidence-based planning and local voices to highlight urgent needs in roads, transport, health, and recreation across one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.

A Growing City Under Pressure

Wyndham is now home to around 337,000 residents, with projections suggesting the population could reach 500,000 by 2040. According to Wyndham City Deputy Mayor Cr Jasmine Hill, this growth is placing significant strain on existing infrastructure.

“Our roads are congested, our trains are overcrowded, our families wait too long for health care and community facilities,” Cr Hill said. “There is a way forward for Wyndham, but it requires the State Government to invest in our future.”

The council is urging all parties and candidates to formally support the campaign’s priorities ahead of the election.

Four Key Investment Packages

The 16 priority projects are grouped into four major investment areas:

I. Roads

Major transport upgrades include long-term solutions such as the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road, the Wyndham Ring Road, and several critical arterial road improvements aimed at easing congestion across rapidly expanding suburbs.

II. Rails

Public transport expansion is a central focus, with proposals including:

  • Three new train stations at Truganina, Black Forest Road, and Sayers Road
  • Full redevelopment of Werribee Station
  • Electrification of the Regional Rail Link

III. Recreation

A series of community and sporting infrastructure projects are also included, such as:

  • Riverdale Aquatic Centre ($50M)
  • Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility ($30M)
  • “The Big Shed” community event space
  • Point Cook Indoor Sports Centre
  • New outdoor netball court canopy covers
  • Upgrades to the Point Cook Homestead Precinct ($8M)

IV. Health

The health package focuses on long-term service stability and mental health support, including securing the future of Mercy Hospital and establishing a new mental health service for Wyndham North.

Community Engagement Ahead of the Election

As part of the campaign rollout, Wyndham City will host a series of candidate forums across local electorates in November, giving residents the opportunity to directly engage with political representatives and hear their commitments.

In addition, a People’s Advisory Panel will play a key role in shaping and presenting the campaign through public events, social media content, and video storytelling ensuring community voices remain central to the advocacy effort.

“This isn’t a wish list,” Cr Hill emphasised. “Every one of these 16 priorities has been selected because it is evidence-based, community-endorsed, and a State Government responsibility. Wyndham’s community is watching, and they deserve answers before they vote.”

Looking Ahead

With the 2026 Victorian State Election scheduled for Saturday 28 November 2026, Wyndham City’s campaign sets the stage for a strong push on infrastructure investment in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing corridors.

The message from Council is clear: growth is accelerating, and so must the infrastructure that supports it.
